The Power of Your Ancestors Lies Within You
Why does it even matter?
Seriously, what can I learn from those that are no longer with us?
Shouldn't we be focusing on the present anyway?
Why would knowing about my ancestors help me?
Those are just some of the questions you might be asking yourself. Well let me let you in on a little secret.
I first learnt about the power of our ancestors, through The Lion King.
It wasn't some “I see dead people” moment.
It was Disney.
"Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I." Mufasa
Fuck. Shhhhhh!!!! I'm I allowed to say this?
As someone who is moving with deep intention into the role of spiritual guide?
Yes, I am. And so are you. You don't need to become something else to be who you truly desire to be. Whether we remember it or not, whether we always appreciate it or not...our ancestors live on in our bodies.
It blows my mind a little bit, to think of those that came before us as people. Humans with stories they never told, with dreams, shame, grief, trauma, desires, wisdom, and everything in between that was and wasn't.
AND is within us too, their bodies made us - their blood is our blood.
We were even in our grandmother's womb once upon a time!
So my question is - how can we NOT look at where we come from to know where we're going?
When we do, with compassion and curiosity - we return to our roots. When you're rooted and grounded, you become unshakable.
How amazing would it feel to not go into a tailspin after someone didn't buy your thing, or someone said NO to your offer, or you saw comparison as a positive nudge, or being rejected didn't feel like shit? And knew deep in your body, you are enough.
My invitation to you is this:
Let's convene in ceremony with the flesh, bones, joy, and blood of those in your lineage.
Let's honour their lives whilst we dance, and realise that in living our most joyous life we honour their dreams. By the way, this has nothing to do with following the familial expectations, on the contrary, it's about letting them go.
This is about listening with your soul to the desires of your bloodline. Desires that may have long been abandoned by your ancestors in order to survive.
Let go of what's not yours and embrace what is. When you do, you can pursue the dreams that in the past would've scared the shit out of you, squeezing the joy out of every moment and living a life that truly turns you ON.
